Pointillisme: Provence continues Quayola’s investigation into high-precision laser scanning systems and their inherent imperfections.
Drawing a parallel between historical painting traditions and computational aesthetics, the project proposes new forms of landscape painting created by machines. Recreating conditions close to those in which late nineteenth-century plein-air painters worked, natural landscapes are here observed and analysed using complex technological systems and then reinterpreted through new modes of visual synthesis.
