Media artist Filip Roca will present a projection mapping on Chkalov Staircase.
Chkalov Staircase is a landmark of Nizhny Novgorod. For a long time, it was considered the longest staircase in the country. Sources attribute varying numbers of steps to it — from 560 to 680, counting both sides of the "figure eight."
The construction of the staircase was dedicated to the victory in the Battle of Stalingrad, and it was named after Soviet test pilot Valery Pavlovich Chkalov, a native of Nizhny Novgorod Governorate, whose monument stands at the top. The architects of the project were Leningraders Alexander Yakovlev, Lev Rudnev, and Vladimir Munts.
In 2021, Chkalov Staircase reopened after a large-scale renovation in honor of the 800th anniversary of Nizhny Novgorod.
